With the house just needing one room finishing and a few final touches here and there, we’ve moved onto the garden. This was really why we bought the house but it still needed a lot of work. Trees had overgrown massively so you couldn’t access a good part of the garden, and two ugly shrubs took up the only flower bed.
We started by sorting out the trees and putting in a man shed for Dermot but, as we’d added in French windows, I really wanted a patio to walk out onto instead of a mud bath as the grass sloped down to the house. I also really fancied a greenhouse and somewhere to grow sone veggies.
I imagined starting maternity leave and sitting out in the sun with a good book waiting for Bailie Jr to arrive for a couple of weeks but thanks to his early appearance, that didn’t happen. At least it was all pretty speedy as we decided to bring in people who knew what they were doing rather than trying to do it ourselves.
The drain covers are weirdly one of my favourite bits as we’d previously had two really ugly slabs plonked over them with one broken and another all wonky. They looked pretty awful.
So here are the pics of the transformation. t used to be a forgotten corner of the garden but we spend all our time here now. And hopefully I’ll have one bumper crop of tomatoes in my first greenhouse growing season.

Another ugly drain cover. Dermot had also built two veggie patches but we wanted to gravel around them .
