The back of the house was really dark and dreary when we moved in as it was split up into a long corridor with a dark bedroom and a weird thin and tiny box room next to it that had three windows which seemed a bit of a waste.

We decided to knock the walls down and turn the two smaller rooms into a new master bedroom and steal back some of the hallway at the same time. As we had a velux in the corner of the room we built a new ensuite in there too. As soon as the walls came down it made a massive difference straight away with light coming in from East and West.

After having a big white box for the past few months, I decorated over Christmas as a surprise for Dermot while he was away for the day. I found some woolly wallpaper online and then decided to use up some paint from other rooms in the house so, if Dermot didn’t like it, I’d not have spent too much. Fortunately he likes it though!

We took this photo before we painted so we could remember where the old walls were before we knocked them all down.

More building site mess, with the dividing line which showed where the old hallway used to go to.
