The bathroom was one of the worst rooms in the house when we bought it. It was tiny, the shower leaked everywhere, it was a horrid yellow, with an old broken mirror and tiles falling off the wall. Next to it was a gigantic bedroom with a weird sink in the corner with one of those old magnetic soap holders. So we decided to claim some of the bedroom space, as well as knocking out an old water closet to triple the size of the bathroom. We designed it ourselves with the focus around a roll top bath, while Dermot wanted a real drenching shower. I love it. Dougal thinks we’ve just made him an elaborate drinks station as he always wants to drink from the bath taps. So I think that’s the official seal of approval.

More of the gorgeous old bathroom, with crumbling tiles and a loo that could only flush one every 20 minutes.

Weird sink in the corner if the old bedroom with magnetic soap holder and fetching towel rail. And awful fitted wardrobes. All about to be destroyed to become part of the bathroom...

The old loo, bath and shower and our ripped out water closet

On the left was the cupboard for the water tank while the spotty wall is where the shower tiles were ripped off. The only thing to stay in the same place post renovation is the loo. But it’s a nicer one!

This bit was a bit of a panic as the bedroom suddenly felt small and the bathroom felt massive.

This bit was a bit of a panic when the dividing wall went up as the bedroom suddenly felt small and the bathroom felt massive. They’re just right now though but we weren’t sure for a short while. The bathroom area here was all part of the bedroom previously.

Seriously glad to see the back of all these 70s additions to the house

Seriously glad to see the back of all this rubbish from bathroom and bedroom.

You can see the join between the two old rooms in the back. The patch to the right of the join is where the ugly sink was in the spare bedroom. Behind the bath taps was the old sink and bathroom mirror that you can see at the top

The only loo I could get even remotely excited about buying.

The only loo I could get even remotely excited about buying and my dream bath. Just about my favourite place in the house.

No I've no idea why we need two sinks either. But we like them

No I’ve no idea why we need two sinks either. But we like them. Dermot has his drench shower in the background. The unit is actually a kitchen cupboard with the same black quartz as we have in the kitchen, on top.
